The Abakwetha blanket is worn during the Xhosa initiation ritual marking the passage from boyhood to manhood.
The red stripe on this blanket symbolises blood and recognises the wearer’s successful transition to manhood.
After the ritual is complete the blanket is burnt to signify the end of childhood.
55% acrylic, 40% polyester and 5% cotton.
Wash Care Instructions:
Gentle wash. Do not bleach and do not iron. This blanket is dry cleanable but cannot be tumble dried. We reccomend that it be air dryed, naturally. Keep away from fire.
